About the Subject:
Sociology is the scientific study of society, social relationships, institutions, culture, and human behavior. It helps students understand how individuals interact with groups, communities, and social structures. The subject examines various aspects of social life, including family, education, religion, economy, politics, social change, social problems, and development.
The study of Sociology enables students to develop critical thinking, analytical skills, and a deeper understanding of contemporary social issues. It provides insights into social inequalities, gender relations, rural and urban life, globalization, migration, media, and community development. Through theoretical knowledge and practical fieldwork, students learn to analyze social realities and contribute to social welfare and nation-building.
Sociology is a dynamic discipline that prepares students for careers in education, social work, research, public administration, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), community development, journalism, human resource management, and various other fields. The subject also encourages responsible citizenship and promotes social awareness, empathy, and a commitment to social justice.

Department of Sociology:
The Department of Sociology aims to develop sociological imagination, critical thinking, and social awareness among students. Through academic learning, research, fieldwork, and community engagement, the department encourages students to understand and analyze contemporary social issues. Various academic and co-curricular activities are organized throughout the year to enhance students’ knowledge, skills, leadership qualities, and sense of social responsibility.
The Department of Sociology was established in 2006 at AQSA Women’s Degree College with the objective of providing quality education in Sociology to women students. The department offers an undergraduate programme and attracts students from Bhiwandi and nearby rural areas. It provides an inclusive learning environment that promotes intellectual growth, social understanding, and active citizenship.
The department is committed to academic excellence and encourages students to participate in research activities, field visits, surveys, seminars, workshops, and community-based programmes. These experiences help students connect sociological theories with real-life social situations and develop practical skills for social analysis.
Faculty members are actively involved in teaching, research, and publication. They continuously contribute to academic development through research projects, scholarly publications, conferences, and extension activities. The department strives to nurture socially conscious, responsible, and well-informed graduates who can contribute positively to society.
