Department of Zoology, NSS and Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Aqsa Women’s Degree College in collaboration with United Way, Mumbai, jointly conducts webinar on ‘Marine Pollution” on 27th May 2020. The session was attended by nearly 17 students and faculty members. The webinar is being organized at a time when all educational institutions are taking the e-learning route due to corona virus lockdown.
The Main objective of the meeting was to make student aware of effect of marine pollution on environment. Ms. Pooja Taleker from united Way, Mumbai shared the screen discussed that the Marine pollution is a combination of chemicals and trash entered into the ocean. This pollution resulted in damaged to the environment, to the health of all organisms, and to economic structures worldwide.
She make students aware that marine pollution occurs when the harmful effects results from the entry of particles, industrials chemicals agricultural and residential waste into the ocean. Eighty percent of marine pollution comes from land. She gave the example of Versova beach cleanup drive and its positive effect on environment. Olive Ridley Turtles comeback to Versova Beach after 20 ears.
She aware students regarding conservations of Marine Pollution and motivated the students to join beach cleanup drive. It was very informative and knowledgeable session

The session was attended by nearly 23 students and faculty members. The webinar is being organized at a time when all educational institutions are taking the e-learning route due to corona virus lockdown.
The key pathway to meeting the target audiences was to discussed the wide-ranging benefits of mangrove, conservation & sustainable management and local mangrove restoration.
Ms. Pooja Talekar from united Way, Mumbai shared the screen and presented the Mangrove Restoration Potential Map. She also discussed that the total area under mangrove cover along the Indian coast is estimated at 4460 km2. The Gangetic Sundarbans is the largest mangrove forest. She also highlighted on land development such as agriculture, aquaculture, industrial purpose, pollution, has contributed to extensive damage of mangroves. Mumbai is one of the best examples for the mangrove destruction due to urbanization. Mangrove habitats serve as a dumping ground for solid wastes and for discharging the effluents from various sources. Mumbai are adversely affected by industrial and domestic pollution. She aware students regarding conservations of Mangroves and motivated the students to join the mangroves conservation campaign. It was very informative and knowledgeable session.
